Brother Andrew started His ministry behind the Iron Curtain by delivering Bibles. To this day, bringing the message of God's Word to persecuted Christians has remained central to our work.
Project Pearl was an unforgettable milestone for Open Doors' Bible distribution. The successful delivery of 1 million Bibles into China in 1981 helped inspire and inform our present day work of delivering Bibles into closed countries.
Most importantly, Project Pearl opened our eyes to God's vision for strengthening the church worldwide. While politics have changed over the years, the simple need for God’s Word remains a critical element in supporting our Christian brothers and sisters around the globe.
In 2008, Open Doors delivered more than 3.9 million Bibles, Children’s Bibles, training materials and other Christian materials requested by the Persecuted Church in almost 50 countries.
God's Word is vital to spiritual growth. Without the guidance of God's Word, new believers face overwhelming cultural pressures and struggle to shrug off the false teachings and social norms of their upbringing.
To put it in perspective, Bibles are so scarce in some places that house churches share just one copy of God's Word, sometimes containing mere fragments.
Persecuted Christians need Bibles and Christians literature as a foundational part of their spiritual growth. The comfort of God's Word empowers our brothers and sisters to forgive their oppressors and reach out with message of God's love to their hostile neighbors.
Jesus prayed for his disciples as His crucifixion drew near. Looking ahead to the persecution His follower would endure, Jesus prayed to the Father, "Sanctify them in truth; Your Word is truth" (John 17:17).
