At Open Doors we strengthen persecuted Christians every day. When asked how believers in America can help, they respond, “Stand with us!” The faithful who live on the frontlines strive to be courageous in the harshest of circumstances. There are many ways you can stand with these believers and ultimately discover courage in your own walk of faith.

Pray for Persecuted Christians - Open Doors USA
Hearts, communities and nations are transformed through prayer. When you unite in prayer for the persecuted church, you discover a powerful connection - to Christ, to one another and to our brothers and sisters living under persecution.

The suffering of the persecuted church does not defeat them, it strengthens them.  Their suffering gives them spiritual courage and a unique understanding of the life and sufferings of Christ.  In the place of prayer, you come to see the spiritual depth to be found in suffering.

Moved by their lives and their stories, Open Doors is committed to developing relevant materials and opportunities to engage you and your Christian communities in deep spiritual experiences with persecuted Christians through prayer campaigns, prayer groups and updates.

Advocacy for Persecuted Christians - Open Doors USA
Together we can turn the tide of injustice against the persecuted Christian in countries hostile to our faith. Keep hope alive by getting involved in advocacy campaigns that seek to free prisoners, speak up for the innocent, or pressure anti-Christian regimes.

Connect Your Church to the Persecuted Church - Open Doors USA
As church leaders you can strengthen your congregation’s walk of faith with meaningful materials filled with life-lessons from persecuted Christians. We’ve created tools specifically for your local church to have an eternal and global impact for the Body of Christ and the persecuted Christian.

Volunteer to Serve Persecuted Christians - Open Doors USA
Our vital work is possible because of volunteers like you who know the joy of lending a helping hand. Whoever you are, you can do something at our office in California, in your church or small group, or with your family for a persecuted brother or sister. Give the precious gift of time.

International Day of Prayer

International Day of Prayer

International Day of Prayer

How can I get involved with the International Day of Prayer for 2009?

This year Dr. Carl Moeller, resident and chief executive officer of Open Doors USA, will be one of three panelists on the Saddleback Civil Forum on Sunday, Nov. 8, from 5-7 p.m. at Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, Calif. Learn More about the Civil Forum on Persecution.

The purpose of the Civil Forum is to raise awareness of how many believers are suffering persecution and atrocities around the world because of their faith and to emphasize Christians’ responsibility to support them, especially through the power of prayer. Please come and join us at Saddleback.

If the International Day of Prayer is only once a year, what are other ways I can support persecuted Christians?

Remembering persecuted Christians is not limited to one day a year. Though the persecuted may be far from us, we are to share in their sufferings. Of the 100 million Christians who are persecuted for their faith every month, their number one request is that you pray for them. Continue to pray for those who are unable to openly express and share their faith in Christ throughout the year.  Another way to remember persecuted Christians throughout the year is to act. Use your freedom to serve the oppressed. Lastly, you can give, thereby directly answering the persecuted's prayers. With $5, a bible can be sent into the hands of a persecuted believer.

What is the International Day of Prayer?

The International Day of Prayer is one of the largest prayer events in the world, crossing geographical and denominational borders. With thousands of churches participating in over 150 countries since 1996 has made great strides in remembering the suffering church. The International Day of Prayer, or IDOP, is a day in November set apart for Christians to pray for believers around the world suffering from persecution . This year, falling on November 8th, 2009, the Christian community will unite in prayer to remember our brothers and sisters who are persecuted because of their commitment to Jesus Christ.

Listen to Carl Moeller share on IDOP 2009 in a radio interview

This idea of uniting as the body of Christ and remembering those who suffer for our same faith is grounded in scripture. Hebrews 13:3 says, "Remember those in prison as if you were their fellow prisoners, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering." God calls us to remember the persecuted Church in our prayers as if their suffering was our own, and this is the perspective we remind ourselves to have on the International Day of Prayer.

Over 100 million Christians are persecuted in more than 45 countries around the world.  Sometimes, this can seem overwhelming... like there is nothing we can do.  Not all of us are able to deliver bibles or go on the field to encourage them.

Here enters the blogging network. You can blog for change. You can be a voice for the persecuted. You can tell their story and make a difference.
It does not matter your age, where you live or your ability to travel...just as long as you have a heart to blog on behalf of persecuted Christians, you can blog for a change in the world and in the lives of others.

China Experience

china experience

An adventure you will not forget!

Over 50 years ago, our founder – Brother Andrew – began the dangerous task of bringing God’s Word to believers behind the Iron Curtain.  What began as his personal ministry has grown into a world-wide mission bringing Bibles, Christian literature, pastoral training, and programs for individual and community development to millions of Christians who share our faith, but not our freedom.

At Open Doors, we also believe it is our duty to share the stories of our persecuted brethren to raise awareness of their plight, marshal resources on their behalf, and engage millions of Christians around the world to pray for these dear ones whose faith in Christ can mean daily persecution and even death.

The China Experience will bring you face to face with Chinese believers meeting to worship in an underground house church.  This dramatized experience will allow you to see and feel what our persecuted brothers and sisters face as they faithfully obey Jesus’ words…  “follow Me.”
