Women: Widow of Iraqi Martyr Lives in Fear |
Nearly five years after her husband was murdered in a local Christian bookshop in northern Iraq, Ruth Hussein admitted to her pastor and visitors from abroad that she was not doing well.
Her husband--Kurdish Christian Monsour Hussein--was shot and killed at a Christian bookshop on April 21, 1997. There is no known motive for his murder apart from his bold commitment to Christ after his conversion from Islam. Although he had received several death threats, Monsour continued to evangelize his friends and neighbors up until the time of his death. His assassin was never identified.
Ruth, his widow, was left with two growing boys to comfort her--her oldest was just one year old at the time while she was pregnant with the second--while she had no other Christian believers among her own family. She lives in fear that someone may kidnap or harm her sons, and she feels threatened on the streets of her community. She is discouraged and disheartened by the perpetual Muslim influence around her. Please pray for the Holy Spirit to encourage Ruth, strengthen her, and give her great peace as she raises her two boys in a Muslim society. *For security reasons, we cannot post Ruth's photo on the internet. |
