| The attackers came without warning and without mercy.
The Christians of Nensebo Chebi, in remote southern Ethiopia, had gathered as usual for their morning worship services on Sunday, March 2nd. But their praises were cut short when Muslim extremists stormed the village’s two churches.
Wielding machetes and knives, the assailants barred the doors and windows and began attacking the Christians—men, women, and children alike.
Brother Tulu Mosisa died instantly from a fierce machete blow. Two other believers, Tolera Gurmu and Degefa Chane, both lost hands in the onslaught. In total, 23 Christians sustained injuries, including five-year-old Boki Abara, whose arm was cut to the bone during the attack.
The wounds—physical, emotional, and spiritual—are still painfully raw. But thanks to Open Doors, the brothers and sisters of Nensebo Chebi know they are not alone. Days after the attack, Open Doors co-workers visited the wounded believers, and assured them of your love and prayers.
“I want to thank you for showing sympathy to our situation,” Boki’s father told the Open Doors team. “We are grateful that Christians are visiting us and encouraging us.”
Please do uphold these faithful brothers and sisters in prayer in the coming weeks and months as they come to terms with their trauma. Your support means so much to them.
