At least 85 Christians were arrested during 2009; many reported mistreatment in prison. Most were later released but remain under surveillance, and court cases are still pending. As a result, there is great fear among Christians.

The growth in the number of believers from a Muslim background has led to some churches being closed and many church services are monitored by the secret police. Christians have reported physical abuse, harassment and discrimination because of their faith.

• Praise God for the witness of Maryam Rostampour and Marzieh Amirizadeh, released after 9 months in prison
• For justice and freedom to emerge from the turmoil of the 2009 elections
