There are no laws that explicitly provide for religious freedom. The country adheres to Islamic law and all citizens are Sunni Muslims 'by definition'. It is prohibited to evangelise Muslims or distribute Arabic scriptures. Small Christian communities are almost exclusively expatriates. Converting from Islam brings social pressure and ostracism. But there is increasing openness to the Gospel and a growing demand for Arabic Bibles.
Pray - For the many Libyans hearing the Gospel through Christian Satellite TV programmes. Pray that God would draw many people to Himself in this way
- That Muslim-background believers would have access to the Scriptures and Christian literature so they can grow in their faith
- That church leaders would be able to receive theological training.
