Ethiopia - Tadelu Dimbasha
Stabbed by her Muslim suitor who had turned on her after she had rejected his offer of marriage, 13-year-old Nura Ahmed died in her mother's arms while being transported to the hospital in Bambasi, Ethiopia. Her suitor, who had pursued her for months, had tried unsuccessfully to get Nura to renounce her faith and marry him. Then, a Muslim girl, whom Nura had befriended, betrayed her by leading her past her suitor’s village on the way home from school last June. Later that day Nura was found dying of multiple stab wounds beside the road.
Nura’s mother, Tadelu Dimbasha, had become a Christian five years before, and had worried a lot about the danger to Nura. She told the Open Doors representative, who met with her three weeks after Nura’s death saying, “It was my greatest fear that they would kill her. My fear became reality. Nura was always encouraging me to be strong in the faith. Now I have lost her.”
Though suffering much emotionally, Open Doors has encouraged Tadelu through prayer and by helping her to start her own business so that she can provide financial support for herself and her deaf 7-year-old son, Alazar Siriqu. She misses her daughter very much and the help that she provided to the family.
Slowly but surely Tadelu needs to rebuild her life. Your letters of comfort and consolation are much needed for Tadelu and her son Alazar. In addition to sending letters please also pray for strength, wisdom and guidance for Tadelu and Alazar as they move ahead in their life. Pray also for God's provision in this traumatized Christian community, and that they will grow spiritually.
