The 11-Year Old Christian Girl From Pakistan
When I was 11-years old, I could often be found rollerblading, reading my American Girl magazine or ‘rocking out’ to the Spice Girls with my best friend in my room. The only thoughts that filled my head were about my family, friends and school.
It was a pretty typical life for an 11-year old; one that many girls my age can relate to. And little do we realize how privileged our childhoods really were…
This week an 11-year old girl in Pakistan was arrested for allegedly burning pages of a Quran. This act is considered blasphemy and if she is convicted, she would face the death penalty- an 11-year old girl! Some reports even indicate that she may have Downs Syndrome.
Her neighbor accused her of doing this and soon there was a mob of more than 1,000 people trying to beat and attack this little girl- for a crime that none of them could state for sure that she committed.
The Blasphemy Law in Pakistan has led to the arrest or death of numerous Christians. At first it was pastors, then other men, women, politicians and now children.
It is vital that we use our voices to speak on behalf of the voiceless. We need to bring awareness to this issue and ask leaders to influence change.
But leaders can only do so much. However, our heavenly Father can do anything and that is why our prayers are so important.
Thank you for your faithfulness in praying for this girl and Christians around the world like her.
