Big news from North Korea today- The North Korean government is halting all nuclear activity in order to receive food aid from the United States

“Today’s announcement represents a modest first step in the right direction. We, of course, will be watching closely and judging North Korea’s new leaders by their actions,” says U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton

According to this CNN article, the United States is going to deliver 240,000 tons of food that is specifically intended for infants, children and pregnant women, so that it will not be misdirected to the North Korean military.

Part of me wants to be hopeful and optimistic- perhaps Kim Jong-Un does desire to help his starving people. Perhaps he is different from his father. Perhaps he is going to make a change in North Korea (and is taking it slow, so North Korea is not thrown into chaos).

Then there is part of me who remembers he comes from a lineage of self-proclaimed ‘gods’ who forced their people to worship them. It seems impossible that things could change after all this time.

However, our God is mighty and hears our prayers for North Korea. That is why now, more than ever we need to pray that God will touch the heart of Kim Jong-Un and that he would be a godly leader to the people of North Korea.
