Facebook Post Lands Algerian Man in Prison

August 10, 2016 by Janelle P in Africa

Slimani Bouhafs, an Algerian Christian, was arrested this past weekend. His imprisonment was due to a Facebook post that was considered “blasphemous”. The contents of the post are not known, however, Slimani will be serving five years in prison for this post.

Slimani has been a faithful Christian since 1997, and although he is facing some injustice right now, James 1:2-4 says “Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.” We know and believe this time will only deepen and strengthen Slimani’s faith in Jesus. The Protestant church of Algeria and a human rights organization in Algeria are working hard to see this wrong made right.

Keep Slimani and his situation in prayer. Pray that his faith is shared through the prison, and that the Lord will provide him everything he needs while he is in prison. Slimani has inflammatory rheumatism, which worsens with stress. Pray for good health and fair accommodations for him. Lastly, pray for the Protestant church of Algeria as they try to appeal Slimani’s verdict.
