Christian persecution is at unprecedented levels. In 2014, we saw this oppression reach historic levels, like in the case of the release of Sudanese Christian Meriam Ibrahim or the kidnapping of the Chibok girls in Nigeria.
We have seen amongst the darkness, the pulling together of nations and believers to stand against this injustice and persecution. The #BringBackOurGirls Campaign brought an international spotlight on the ISIS Nigerian kidnappings. Thousands of petitions were signed in order to bring awareness to Meriam in Sudan, which ultimately led to her release.
Today, many Christians in the Middle East are told to “convert or die”. In Mosul, Iraq, old churches are being torched and burned down. Jihadists have been known to starve Christians in areas they plan to take over. Just this past week, 21 Egyptian Christians were beheaded by ISIS militants.
It has been stated that this could be the end of Christianity in the Middle East because of such high levels of violence and merciless killing.
