Today, the White House announced that it is going to send a team to Nigeria to help find the nearly 300 girls who were abducted from their school by an extremist group that is located primarily in Northern Nigeria last month. Though the case did not receive a lot of attention initially, the hashtag #bringbackourgirls began to trend across multiple social media platforms. As a result, many news sources began to take note and eventually the government took action. So this raises the question- can hashtags save lives? Though some social media trends can create a false sense of action, stories like this might suggest that there is some merit in spreading a message and educating via hashtags. So what are your thoughts? Do you think that hashtags like these can save lives? Please continue to pray for these young women and their families. Open Doors is working to help women and children, like these girls, in numerous countries where they face marginalization not only for being a Christian, but for their status as a women or child in that society.
