He Lost His Job For Following Jesus. What now?

June 7, 2016 by Brett Tarbell in Asia

Our fieldworker asks us to pray for Ali*, a man who recently began following Christ after leaving Islam. Ali is 31, from Rakhine State, Myanmar, and is from the disadvantaged Rohingya people group. As a Rohingya, he’s denied citizenship and entrenched in poverty, despised by Myanmar’s Buddhist government for his race and Muslim religion. Basically, things have always been difficult for Ali—and that was before he lost his job for following Jesus.

Formerly, Ali drove a rented tricycle taxi for a living. When the owner of the trike learned about Ali’s new faith, he became so angered that he forbade Ali from renting the trike again. This cut off Ali’s only source of income, and now he’s having trouble putting food on the table for his three kids—a boy and two girls.

Ali is traveling a hard road as a Rohingya Christian. On top of the hardship he already faced as a member of an ethnically persecuted tribe, he now has to deal with persecution from the Muslim majority within that tribe as well.

Since his conversion, Ali has been attending meetings for former Muslims who now follow Christ. Please pray for God to continue to provide for him and his family, and pray that losing his job won’t hinder Ali from being deeply rooted in his Savior, no matter what ever else may come his way.
