‘I’m trying to See How To Complete the Job Before I go to My Christ’

Dada* is an evangelist and a youth leader. He boldly proclaims Christ to everyone he meets, though the region he comes from in Nigeria is very hostile to Christianity. He actively leads the Christian youth in his community and is an advisor to government officials.

He has a very peaceful demeanor and is passionate about sharing the gospel.

It is hard to believe that he is an MBB (Muslim Background Believer) who actually used to attack and even kill Christians just 14 years ago.

Dada comes from a prominent Muslim family, so when he became a Christian he received many threats. His life continues to be threatened on a regular basis for this reason.

He feels called to minister to the young people of his area. The economic situation has caused many of the youth to be unemployed. Additionally, Christian youth are marginalized by the constant attacks from Boko Haram.

Dada shared a story from a night when a Christian part of town had been attacked by Boko Haram. The youth were extremely upset by this attack and wanted to retaliate. They told Dada what they were going to do. He knew that they were very emotional and would not listen if he told them not to, so he said ‘Let’s go to the church building so we can come up with a plan.’ When he gathered the youth inside, he began speaking to the youth about what was going on and attempted to defuse the situation by focusing on the life of Jesus. After sharing for a long time, he asked the group to pray. By the end of their prayer time together, the young people who had originally wanted to retaliate realized that it was not what Jesus would want them to do and did not move forward with their original plan.

In addition to ministering to Christian youth, Dada has also reached out to Muslim youth- even a member of Boko Haram. He shared the gospel with this young man, but did not have a chance to ask him if he wanted to receive Jesus as his Lord and Savior, as their conversation was interrupted. Before he left, this young man warned Dada about an attack that was planned that night. Dada thanked him and warned all of the Christians, so they would not be harmed.

Boko Haram traced back the information leak to this young man and he is in prison in a northern state. Dada wishes he could have asked this young man if he would like to receive Jesus as his Savior, but takes comfort in the verse Philippians 1:6- He who began a good work in you will be faithful to complete it.

Please pray for Dada and his ministry to the youth of Nigeria. Pray for his strength, protection and perseverance to continue his evangelism in his region. Pray also for the salvation of this young man who is in prison.
