ISIS In Malaysia and Indonesia

July 6, 2016 by Janelle P in , ,

Malaysian police have just confirmed that the recent grenade attack at a bar in Puchong (about 15 minutes from Kuala Lumpur) last Tuesday, June 28, was the first successful terrorist attack on its soil carried out by Islamic State (IS) militants. No one was killed, but 8 people were injured. Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said, “The bar was attacked as it was deemed an un-Islamic establishment.”

Weeks before the attack, IS had released chilling videos* warning of attacks in Malaysia and Indonesia. In these videos, IS threatened that the governments and leaders of the nusantara (archipelago) would be toppled to make way for the supremacy of Islam. He was seen holding a red passport while the others around him were holding green passports. The red passport is associated with Malaysia while the green with Indonesia. Other videos also showed child soldiers receiving combat training under the watchful eyes of a terrorist.

Prayer Points:

1. Pray for the governments of Malaysia and Indonesia to be successful in combating terrorism and rehabilitate the captured terrorists.

2. Pray for the jihadists, especially the children being used as child soldiers; that they will encounter Jesus and find salvation, truth and grace in Him.

3. Pray for wisdom and boldness for churches and believers to reach out to Muslims with the gospel in their response to the threat. Outreach to Muslims in these countries is minimal as it poses great risks. In fact, it is unlawful in Malaysia.
