Open Doors Co-Hosting a Congressional Briefing on Iraq and Syria
by Kristin Wright, Director of Advocacy at Open Doors USA
I recently returned from a trip to Lebanon where I had the opportunity to visit Syrian refugees and witness firsthand the work of Open Doors on the ground in this area.
After meeting with refugee families, chronicling their stories, and visiting projects such as schools and “child-friendly spaces” for refugee children, I’m very excited to have the opportunity to share about my experiences at our upcoming Congressional briefing. It’s an opportunity to shed light on the horrible suffering endured by Syrian refugees, and discuss the importance of taking action to help those who are oppressed.
Open Doors is collaborating on this event, set for October 16, 2014, with International Christian Concern (ICC), an organization working to raise awareness about the persecuted church around the world. My colleague Isaac Six, who serves as Director of Advocacy at ICC, just returned from a trip to Iraq, where he met with Christian refugees fleeing ISIS. Together, we will be sharing about our experiences on the ground visiting with Iraqi and Syrian refugees.
The event will be hosted by Rep. Trent Franks, a tireless advocate within Congress for religious freedom and human rights around the world. We’re honored to be working closely with his office to increase awareness and understanding of persecution in Iraq and Syria.
We’re so grateful for your support of our work in Syria and Iraq. Thank you for being a voice for the voiceless, and for joining with us to advocate on behalf of persecuted Christians around the world!
