We have seen it all over the news and our social media feeds, and rightly so. The horrific mass shooting this past weekend in Orlando, killing 49 and wounding 53, has shaken us to our core.
The gunman, Omar Mateen, called 911 during the attack and pledge allegiance to ISIS, the Islamic extremist group. The Islamic State has reportedly claimed credit for the shooting, also.
There are many countries on the World Watch List (a list of 50 countries where Christian persecution is the most extreme) where ISIS has attacked, killed or forced many to flee as refugees. The group’s main presence remains in Iraq and Syria, ranked #2 and #5 on the list.
This was America’s deadliest mass shooting. What is even more staggering is that this type of shooting occurs often in other parts of the world at the hands of ISIS.
The Islamic State carries out frequent attacks in nations from the World Watch List like Indonesia, Nigeria and countries in Central Asia to name a few.
This shooting hits very close to home, but let’s use this as a reminder to pray for countries where ISIS is dominant, like Iraq and Syria. This recent act of terror reminds us that we live in a fallen world, but that as the Body of Christ, we are ONE. Please join us in praying for those affected by the Orlando shooting as well as for Christians being persecuted at the hands of ISIS today.
