Praise God for believers’ early prison releases in Iran

February 10, 2020 by Lindy Lowry in Middle East

PRAISE: Our field is sharing that three imprisoned Iranian Christians have been granted early release two months into their six-month sentences. Asghar Salehi was freed on Feb. 2; Mohammadreza Rezaei (pictured above) and a Christian known as A.T. were slated for release on Feb. 8 (though we have no confirmed reports of their release).

On September 18, 2018, Iranian intelligence agents raided their homes and arrested them. Asghar was interrogated for three days. Horrifically, he spent most of that time blindfolded.  Seven months later, he, Mohammadreza and  A.T., were summoned to a court hearing where they were and charged with propaganda against the Islamic Republic. The judge refused to allow Asghar to speak and warned him that he was being monitored and that he would have to commit to stop all Christian activities prior to another court session.

A year after they were first jailed in December 2019, the three men learned they were facing a six-month prison sentence for “propaganda against the System through promoting Zionist Christianity.” The sentences were upheld in the court of appeal. Since then, all three men have been held in Eghlid Prison. In December, each one applied for a pardon and early release.

While we thank and praise God for their release, we must remember our brothers and sister who remain imprisoned in Iran, for there are many. Also remember Christian Fatemeh Mohammadi, 21, who after four weeks since her arrest is still missing with no word from her. Fatemeh’s family is deeply concerned.

Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering (Heb. 13:3).
