Pray for USCIRF and Religious Freedom!!!

Today, we are breaking away from blogging about Prayer: The Real Battle, because an extremely important issue has arisen.

One of the most amazing things about living in America is that we have freedom of religion. It is one of the key founding principles of our country. America has set an example of religious freedom for countries all over the world. However, the example the United States has set could lose its significance:

The U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) will be shut down tomorrow unless the Senate takes action to extend the agencies life. The USCIRF’s funding was originally scheduled to sunset in September of 2011, but through passage of continuing resolutions in the House and Senate, the agency’s funding was extended until tomorrow, Nov.18th. While yet another continuing resolution could provide the USCIRF with another month of life, this is no way to run an essential agency.

The USCIRF is an independent, bipartisan federal commission that makes recommendations to the president, secretary of state and Congress.  The only agency of its kind in the world, the USCIRF consistently speaks out on religious freedom violations worldwide that go unnoticed or unpublicized by mainstream media and other US government agencies.

Would you please pray that this does not happen? Please call your local elected officials and ask them to act! It is vital that we with religious freedom continue to be a voice for those who do not have religious freedom. Thank you for your support!
