Why Would I Pray During Ramadan?

July 9, 2013 by Open Doors in

Ramadan It might seem strange that a Christian organization like Open Doors is praying through the month of Ramadan, but this is one of the most important times of the year to be praying for persecuted Christians around the world. Of the 50 countries on the World Watch List, nearly 40 have Muslim dominated societies. Many Christians who live in these countries say that persecution is often heightened during the month of Ramadan. Christians stand out more in the month of Ramadan. If they choose not to fast during this time, it is noticeable and often brings unwanted attention. “Imagine being watched all the time’ Imagine being asked if you are fasting during Ramadan,” shares Hana, a Christian from Pakistan. Christians in these countries often feel objectified, ostracized and alone during the month of Ramadan. In some countries, there is an increase in violence against Christians during this time (we will be sharing some of these stories in the coming weeks). Romans 15:30 says “I urge you, brothers and sisters, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to join me in my struggle by praying to God for me.” What better way to come alongside our persecuted brothers and sister than by praying for them in the name of Jesus during the month of Ramadan? Open Doors has provided a daily prayer guide for the month of Ramadan which can be downloaded here. Thank you for joining with us in praying for our brothers and sisters during this critical time!
