Special Envoy Petition: 10,000 Signatures and Counting

June 24, 2015 by Sally Rae in , ,

Open Doors launched a petition in May to ask President Obama to appoint a Special Envoy for Religious Minorities in the Near East and South Central Asia. The campaign has had an incredible response from our supporters. “We have had 10,000 signatures on the petition, in just one month’s time, which is a very strong response,” says Open Doors Advocacy Director, Kristin Wright. “It is our hope that the White House will take notice that filling this post is of vital interest to many American citizens.”

Congress passed legislation (S.653) to create the Special Envoy post last summer and President Obama signed the bill into law on August 8, 2014. A year of horrifying persecution for Christians and other religious groups has since passed, without any indication that a Special Envoy will be named.

We appreciate all who have spoken up on behalf of persecuted Christians by signing the petition. If you have already signed the letter, please share the petition with your friends.  And if you have not yet signed the Special Envoy Petition, please do so today!
