Spread Light, Go Dark: BLACKOUT
by Samantha Moats
“I am unto death a Christian…Jesus Christ is my light and salvation, whom shall I fear?”
– Fatima, 1982-2008
A few weeks ago, we challenged you to join the BLACKOUT campaign and told you about Fatima, an unashamed, risk-taking Christian from Saudi Arabia who lost her life for her faith in Jesus. A single candle can light up a dark room, but this August 28-29 we are going dark:
- to shed light in the darkest of places
- to stand in solidarity with those who have been silenced
- to speak for those have been forbidden.
Bold, unashamed, risk-taking faith…
As Mike Gore tells Fatima’s story he reminds us, “Your natural response to a relationship with Jesus is to express it any way possible.” That is the kind of faith we learn about from Fatima and so many like her.
SO, WE HAVE AN ANNOUNCEMENT!
Fatima chose to express her relationship with Jesus on social media, and we are choosing this, too!
Starting today, you can download the official BLACKOUT Awareness Kit. Included are profile pictures and headers for both Facebook and Twitter, an Instagram profile picture, as well as eight (8) shareable photos for all three social media networks.
This is a simple way to tell others about the persecuted church and encourage them to get involved with BLACKOUT. We want to see your posts, so share them with us using the hashtag #fortifyBLACKOUT. By midnight on August 28, you’ll be ready switch off for the persecuted church, and we’ll be right there with you!
But it doesn’t stop there.
For the next 40 days, we are raising $2000 for persecuted women and children, and we’re asking you to join us! Right now, you can make a donation or become a fundraiser for the BLACKOUT campaign. Work as an individual, with some friends or even get your church group involved – it’s entirely up to you.
As you spread awareness and begin fundraising, know that we are praying for you every step of the way. We can’t wait to see what God accomplishes during this campaign! And never forget – we are #OneWithThem.
