As we enter 2012, it is our desire as a ministry to educate and raise awareness about the Persecuted Church to our constituents, old and new. One of the ways to do so is to have a monthly book club. At the beginning of each month, a book on the topic of persecution will be introduced and then discussed as a community online in the following month.
We have named this book club, “Strengthen What Remains.” This came from the verse in Revelation 3:2, which Brother Andrew often quotes as the pinnacle passage for his calling to serve the Persecuted Church: “Wake up! Strengthen what remains and is about to die.” When I read this passage, I see two meanings: First, to strengthen the Persecuted Church that is struggling for its life and secondly, to strengthen ourselves, believers who are free to believe, so we can become better stewards, prayer warriors, and advocates for those who share our faith, but not our freedom.
The book for January is God’s Smuggler, a biography about our ministry founder, Brother Andrew. As you read through this book, here are a few questions to think about and to help guide our upcoming discussion:
1. What is it that made Brother Andrew desire to serve the persecuted church?
2. Why is it important for me to be a part of it?
3. What is God challenging me to do?
4. By reading this book, do I feel that I’ve increased my knowledge for the persecuted? How so?
5. How has this book strengthened me?
Read as much as you can. Share as much as you want. Learn with passion. There are no hardcore commitments or membership fees to being part of this club, just your willingness to be better informed and an openness to learn from one another. Would you consider joining this journey and strengthening your mind, heart, and soul for the persecuted church and believers this year? I hope so! I am excited to see how God will work and change my heart through this opportunity and hope this will do the same for you too. Talk to you in a month!
Strengthening what remains,
