Syrian Christians Hold Tight To Eternal Hope
The Syrian city of Aleppo has been divided between government and opposition controlled areas for many years. Recently, the opposition fighters came very close to one of the Christian areas in the city. Many Christians don’t know what to do. The ones with the financial means to flee the city have already left, leaving behind poverty and confusion in the place they once called home.
Pastor Samuel* (pseudonym), a pastor from one of the churches in the city, says: “Many see no hope in the city and no reason to stay. They face the dilemma: stay, live in very hard and risky circumstances and wait to die, or leave the city. For me as a pastor, besides facing the same circumstances, my challenge is knowing what to say to help encourage others. Unfortunately, I don’t have all the answers, I don’t know what is the best. What about the elderly people or the families that have small children? What about all those who have no financial means to leave the city? I continue to pray that the Lord will give me mercy, hope and peace. I ask for the wisdom to help the people make the right decision, and in the end, I ask how I can give these people the hope found only in Him.”
Please continue to pray for Pastor Samuel and all the other Christians in Aleppo. Join us in prayer for Iraq, Syria and the entire Middle East; the Islamic State has attacked mercilessly and left tragedy and terror in their wake. We praise God that He has it all in His control and desires to give His people eternal hope and joy.
