I had grown up in a Christian school learning that devotions were very important, but my family never did them and so neither did I. I was raised in church but also very worldly. When I finally got saved for real, I began delving into legalism, which soon the faltered. After the loss, by distance, of my dearest friend, the Lord drew me to Himself through His Word and truth in song. Eventually, to avoid repeating mistakes, I took seriously the idea of reading my Bible. I haven’t always been completely consistent, and I certainly have not been perfect; but the Lord has never left my side, and I love Him and His Word. Often I hug my Bible out of joy and gratitude while I’m reading. God dwells in a Heaven and all believers, but His Word is a tangible gift of His presence.
