Like Paul it is to/for me “Not that I have already obtained this [resurrection from the dead] or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me His own. I do not consider that I have made it my own, but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus” (Phil 3:12-14, ESV). In light of that, these verses from the International Children’s Bible take hold of my heart and give me hope now that I am 71 years old: “[God’s] children are people with physical bodies. So Jesus Himself became like them and had the same experiences they have. He did this so that, by dying, He could destroy the one who has the power of death. That one is the devil. Jesus became like men and died so that He could free them. They were like slaves all their lives because of their fear of death” (Heb 2:14-15).
