The 2016 World Watch List
As persecution increases and intensifies, your generosity is needed now more than ever!
For the 14th consecutive year, North Korea ranks as the most hostile place to be a Christian on the Open Doors World Watch List. North Korea continues to be the most dangerous place in the world to be a Christian. The dictatorship government has an iron grip on its citizens. Any who deviate from the official beliefs and ideologies are considered enemies of the state. Thousands of Christians are incarcerated in prison camps, while many others face arrest, torture, or public execution.
Following are Iraq and Eritrea, both rising from last year’s World Watch List (formerly ranked #3 and #9).Persecution from the Islamic State has caused Christians in these countries to be especially targeted.
In fact, this year’s list shows that persecution is not just spreading, but also intensifying. Even the lowest ranking country, [insert Country name], saw a 4% increase in persecution from last year due to specific targeted acts of persecution against Christians.
Thanks to generous friends like you, Christians who are persecuted are not without hope.
Each time you give, you are helping to provide a Bibles for a persecuted Christians to share with their neighbors. You are helping to provide training, so Christians are equipped to reach others with the gospel message — even their persecutors! You are helping to provide safe places for Christians on the run, which means you’re helping to keep more Christians alive.
Thank you for continuing to stand with our brothers and sisters in these countries. Your prayers and support mean more to them than you’ll ever know.
