A few weeks ago, Open Doors Australia CEO Mike Gore asked me what I enjoy most about working with Open Doors USA and what I have learned from it. This is not the question people normally ask me about Open Doors, so I had to pause for a minute and think. What I shared with Mike I am going to share with you:
What I enjoy most and what I have learned are synonymous. Working with Open Doors has shown me what the church, the Body and Bride of Christ, really looks like. Since joining the organization, I realized how big the church is; I noticed how connected we are to each other, and these words of Christ began sinking in more than ever: “By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” (John 13:35 ESV)
If one part of my body is hurting, then I do something to alleviate the pain. The same is true of the persecuted members of the church. If one member of this Body is hurting, then those who are not hurting must do something to alleviate the pain of those who are. Christ Himself tells us by loving each other we declare our identity to all people, that we are disciples of Jesus Christ.
Right now, there are many members of this Body who are hurting. So, what are we going to do about it? Spend time today learning about persecution, praying for persecuted Christians around the world, advocating and giving on their behalf. Remember that we need each other because we are members of the same Body, and can take action by supporting the work of Open Doors.
