Today Marks 5 Years of Syrian Conflict

March 15, 2016 by Janelle P in Middle East

Today, March 15th, marks 5 years since the beginning of the Syrian war.

According to the BBC, over 250,000 Syrians have lost their lives in this armed conflict, and 11 million have been forced from their homes.

Protests for President Assad’s resignation quickly escalated into a civil war. The rise of the Islamic extremist group, the Islamic State (ISIS) has only added to the tension. ISIS has been waging terror against all who stand in their way and do not comply with their demands or beliefs. This often includes Christians.

More than 4.5 million people have fled Syria since the beginning of the crisis, creating a humanitarian crisis in the neighboring countries who do not have the proper infrastructure set up to support this flood of refugees.

While this situation often seems overwhelming without a clear solution in sight, Open Doors is on the ground in this region, providing for practical needs, such as food, and sharing the hope of Jesus.

Join with us to pray for refugees throughout the Middle East facing this conflict daily, and please consider giving to help Christians affected by ISIS today.
