Update from Chibok Girls in Nigeria

August 19, 2016 by Janelle P in Advocacy

Boko Haram, an Islamic extremist group, has released a new video. The video shows some of the Chibok schoolgirls that they abducted in April 2014.

The Islamic militants are displayed with the girls in the background, demanding that their fighters be released in exchange for the girls.

Boko Haram is reportedly still holding 200 of the 276 girls that they abducted over two years ago. These girls were forced to convert to Islam and even pressured into marriages. The parents of these missing girls were horrified seeing this newly released video.

Open Doors Advocacy Director, Kristin Wright, met with the parents of the Chibok girls at the end of last year and asked them how we can be remembering and praying for them. These parents have been under enough stress, and this video only brings more despair. They have a sure foundation in Jesus, but they are hurting and want their girls to come home.

Let’s join together to pray for the Chibok girls and their parents.

Jesus, we pray for these young girls. They are surely experiencing trauma and confusion and feeling fearful. Although they have been abducted by this Islamic extremist group that has such an evil agenda so set against Your good and perfect ways, we pray that they would be comforted knowing that You have them securely in Your hand for eternity. We pray for their parents and the grief they have been living with for over two years. May You be their guide and strength. We pray this in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
