Urgent Prayers Needed: Hundreds of Iraqi Christians Are Fleeing For Their Lives

June 12, 2014 by Open Doors in ,

Iraq Refugees As the violence continues to increase, hundreds of Iraqi Christians have been forced to flee from their homes. Islamic extremists have taken over cities in the northern part of the country, where the few remaining Christians live. The Islamic extremist group, The Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant’s (ISIS), has taken over the cities of Mosul, Tikri and Nineveh. This extremist group has also been responsible for attacks against Christians in Syria. In 2003, there were a million Christians in Iraq- today there are less than 345,000. And now, hundreds more have been forced to flee due to the violence. The rising influence of radical Islam has accounted for increased attacks, many specifically against Christians. Though these groups are doing everything in their power to eradicate Christianity from Iraq, we know we serve a God who hears our prayers and cares for His people. Would you join with us in praying for our brothers and sisters in Iraq? Please pray:

  • For the small handful of Christians who remain- that God will strengthen and protect them. Pray that He will grant them wisdom and opportunities to reflect the light of Christ during this time.
  • For those who have fled their homes, families and material goods. Pray that God would provide for them.
  • That the Islamic extremists would have a true encounter with Jesus, and turn to Him instead.

Thank you for joining with us in praying for persecuted Christians in Iraq during this critical time! Learn More About Iraq
