Christians in India can use your encouragement now more than ever. Ranking #11 on the 2018 World Watch List, persecution is on the rise in India. Today, we’d like to invite you to write a note to believers in this region who face intense political and social challenges for following Jesus.
In an attempt to “unite” the country, India’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has called on all non-Hindu people in India to adopt the Hindu culture, insisting they revere and glorify the Hindu religion. “…In one word [the non-Hindu] must cease to be foreigners or may stay in the country wholly subordinated to the Hindu nation claiming nothing, deserving no privileges, far less any preferential treatment not even citizen’s rights,” said M.S. Golwalker, founder of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh—a paramilitary organization that is closely aligned with India’s government.
The RSS has also set a goal for India to be free of Christians by 2021. And they are attempting to eliminate the religion through various methods including chasing pastors out of communities, excluding Christians from society and even physical violence.
For this reason, we ask you to pray for our brothers and sisters in India. Believers like Pastor Rohan and his wife, Nehu, who were violently kicked out of their village for their faith in Jesus. And young believers like Reena who face bullying and even abduction because they’ve decided to follow Christ and not Hinduism. And so many others.
We invite you to take a few minutes to send a note of encouragement to your brothers and sisters in Christ as they follow Jesus in one of the world’s most difficult places.
We appreciate each of you who opts to stand in solidarity with our Christian family in India.
