Letters to the Persecuted

Each year, an estimated 215 million Christians suffer from high or extremely high persecution for following Jesus. That’s 1 in 12 Christians worldwide. Due to the frequency of such incidents, Open Doors receives new reports of persecution from bases and partners around the world all year long. Which means there are always Christians facing harassment, assault, imprisonment, and even death who could use our prayer and encouragement.

As these reports come in, we take seriously the Apostle Paul’s instruction in 1 Thessalonians 5:11 to “encourage one another and build each other up.” That is why, today, Open Doors would like to invite you to take a few minutes of your time to write a note to encourage these believers who follow Jesus in some of the world’s darkest places. You can write a letter on your own. Or, you can share this opportunity with your small group or congregation.

These letters often reach a persecuted Christian who has been excluded from their community. Sometimes they have been denied employment, pushed out of their housing or even kicked out of their families. In this isolation, a few words of encouragement from Christians around the globe can arrive just when hope is needed most.

We appreciate each of you who is willing to take a minute to send the message to these Christians that they are not alone. This is a wonderful chance to remind them that God and other Christians around the world stand with them.
