Church Seeks Solutions to Crisis in South Sudan
The youngest nation in the world, the Republic of South Sudan, has been in the midst of civil war in Juba, their nation’s capital. The Council of Churches issued a statement of concern on July 10th regarding the increasing insecurity in the country. They condemned the violence, called the perpetrators to repentance, called on civilians and armed forces to refrain from escalating the violence, and committed to continued prayer for the dire circumstances. Throughout the crisis in the young country, the church has had the opportunity to engage and play an active role in seeking solutions, calling for an end to hostilities. We praise God that His church has been so involved in reconciliation! Please continue in prayer for peace to be restored, and for wisdom and grace for the church as they continue to speak into this situation and bring hope to a nation increasingly in despair.
Father, how we grieve for this nation whose motto is “Justice, Liberty, Prosperity” and that has none of these. We pray for justice to prevail and for reconciliation to be accomplished that all men may know liberty and freedom and that the poverty that has gripped this nation might be transformed into prosperity. We pray that all eyes might turn to You in unity. Thank You, Father, that Your church is engaging with those who rule to aid in finding solutions to the current violence and unrest. We do pray for them and with them that peace might be restored in their land that You might grant them much wisdom and grace as they continue to speak out with Your offer pf hope in the midst of great despair. In the name of Jesus in whose unfailing love we put our hope. Amen.
