A Christian co-worker shares about the changes in Egypt… and what it all means during Ramadan:
“Many of us still do not believe what has just happened! After two and a half years of domination by the Muslim Brotherhood and their Salafist affiliates in Egyptian politics, and one year of rule under former President Morsi, the people of Egypt revolted again, in massive numbers, against the attempts of turning Egypt into a strict Islamic state.
“Our prayers and tears, before the Throne of God, to cast away the ‘oppressive masters’ from our country seem to have been answered! Earthly thrones are being shaken, and hidden plots are being un-veiled – one by one! The coming days may show surprises of how Egypt was ruled, and the understanding of how far a group would go, in seeking their own interests and gains above the welfare of the country and its people. We know that there is a long road ahead, but we keep praying…faithfully!
“And now, during Ramadan, Christians have a wonderful opportunity to show our genuine love and compassion to our Muslim neighbors and friends. We have the privilege of sharing the touching love of Jesus in an environment that right now is toxic with hatred and rejection. It takes a lot of effort and courage to express love to someone when you know that he/she hates you, or would attack you, your wife, your children and your church if they were given the chance. Knowing the challenges, I pray each day for God to take away my human weakness, and fill me instead with the love that Jesus has put in my heart.
“Yesterday, as I was shopping in the supermarket, a Salafist man with a big beard was standing next to me. At once God filled me with compassion. I felt that I needed to speak to him! I could see that he was confused about some of the items displayed, so I jumped in! With a big smile on my face I began explaining the different products to him. Afterwards I wished him a good afternoon and moved on. What a great feeling I had! I felt confirmation from the Holy Spirit that this was what the Lord wanted me to do. It was just a simple act of love and respect to a man whom Jesus also loves and died for!
“Please pray for Christians of Egypt to use opportunities during Ramadan to show God’s love to Muslims. Just like one pastor from Egypt who posted this message on Facebook! ‘To our beloved Muslim friends, we greet you from our hearts for the month of Ramadan. Happy fasting month.'”
Join in praying this prayer for our brothers and sisters in Egypt:
Heavenly Father, we give You all the praise and thanks for the miracles that You are doing in Egypt. As the largest Islamic nation in the Middle East, we are grateful that Your people are standing courageously and reaching out in godly love to their Muslim neighbors. Embolden believers in such a way that as they reach out in Love, may many be drawn toward You, and into a saving grace through Christ Jesus. Father, as of recent there has been bloodshed and violence toward Your flock. Our hearts break for the families who have lost loved ones. Father, fill them with forgiveness while comforting them in their grief. And Father, we ask that You help us all to remain faithful in our prayers, that although we may not see the outcome, and there may be more trouble in the future, we are confident that Your Hand is at work in Egypt. Praying in the Name of Jesus, our Redeemer. Amen
