House Church in Southern Philippines is Closely Watched

May 5, 2014 by Open Doors in Asia

Several tablighs (Muslim missionaries) converged on a house church in an undisclosed village in Southern Philippines and inquired about the activities held there for Muslim Background Believers (MBBs).

“We normally shut the windows during our meetings,” said a lay leader who uses the house church to hold community-based discipleship classes. “But there are mosques nearby and the Muslim neighbors must have noticed believers coming in from other communities.”

The tablighs demanded to know why the believers were holding prayer meetings without asking their permission. “They must have noticed also the changes in the lives of the believers attending the discipleship training,” said the lay leader who chose to remain unnamed for his safety.

Please pray for God’s wisdom for the lay leader to find safer, creative ways to continue his ministry to the MBB house church. Pray for the believers to grow in Christ and for them to experience peace in the midst of religious pressure from the tablighs.

Father, as You have opened the eyes of these Muslim Background Believers to see the truth of Your Word, to turn to you in faith through Christ who gave His life for them, we pray now that You would close the eyes of the tablighs as they search homes for evidence of Bibles and worship, purposing to halt Your work there. Protect the believers as they worship and as they encourage and disciple each other. Grow their faith and knowledge of You, and strengthen them to stand strong in their faith. Grant them peace that passes all understanding in the midst of intimidation to return to Islam. And we pray for the tablighs and other Muslims in the village that You would open the eyes of their hearts and minds to the truth of Your Word, to saving faith in Christ. In the name of Jesus who is gathering together His church from all nations and peoples. Amen.
