Kenya: Pastor Killed during Worship Service

January 13, 2015 by Janelle P

On Sunday unknown gunmen in Mombasa, Kenya stormed into a morning worship service of the Mita Maximum Revival Church and killed the pastor. George Karidhimba Muriki, in his mid-30s, was the secretary/assistant pastor of the church and a local business man.

Witnesses said the two attackers entered into the church compound through a side gate, avoiding two policemen guarding the church. A witness told media the attackers tried to force their way into the church, but when worshippers stopped them, one drew a gun and shot the pastor in the back several times. The motive for the attack is not known and no one has claimed responsibility. No suspects have been identified.

Please join Open Doors in praying for the Christian community in this volatile region as it responds to the attack. Pray particularly for the leaders of the pastors’ forum as they respond officially to the attack. Pray for courage and wisdom for all involved.
Kenya is ranked No. 19 on the Open Doors 2015 World Watch List of the worst persecutors of Christians. The previous year Kenya was ranked No. 43.
