Nigeria the Victim of Most Horrific Attacks Yet

God is using you to bring hope to Christians in Nigeria

In late January, one of the most horrific attacks by Boko Haram to date took place. At least 86 people were killed and Boko Haram specifically targeted children.

This horrifying event occurred on January 31, on the outskirts of the Nigerian city of Maiduguri – the birthplace of Boko Haram – and lasted for hours. The terror group targeted villages and camps housing some 25,000 refugees. Eyewitnesses reported that Boko Haram extremists firebombed huts and used suicide bombers, burning adults and children alive, and shooting those who tried to escape.

At least 20,000 people have been killed in Nigeria by Boko Haram since 2010. More than 2.3 million have been displaced and at least 1 million children have been forced out of school. And many of those impacted are Christians.

The situation in Nigeria seems hopeless, but God is using you in a mighty way to help our brothers and sisters stand strong. Even though attacks like this are frequent, God is using you to help thousands.

Boko Haram killed my husband and I had no way to provide for my children,” shared one widowed believer. “But you helped me start a business and pay for my children’s school. Thank you so much!”

You are making a huge difference in spite of Boko Haram’s attacks.

An average of 5 churches are attacked every Sunday in Nigeria. It is difficult to imagine that happening here in the US. And it is even more difficult to imagine being willing to risk going to church with odds like that, but these Christians are standing strong in spite of the risk.

“Through on the ground training, Christians are learning how to stand strong in spite of the persecution that they face,” shares one Open Doors worker. “Even though Boko Haram is trying to rid Nigeria of Christianity, these believers remain and are shining Christ’s light in this country.”

Thank you for your faithfulness in continuing to equip believers like those in Nigeria to stand strong and be the light of Christ in some of the most difficult places. Your generosity is changing lives!
