Pray for Aleppo in Syria

Why We Need to Pray for Aleppo

Aleppo continues to suffer regular bombardments and shelling both by the government and its allies and by the different opposition groups. No one is safe in this embattled Syrian city. Bombs or mortars regularly hit defenseless civilians and civilian targets, causing injuries or even death to people who take no part in the armed conflict. Please pray for all of the civilians left in Aleppo, and for the hard-hit Christian population in particular. This weekend, mortar fire damaged a warehouse belonging to one of the churches, further diminishing the church’s already dangerously low supplies. Pray that in spite of this recent loss, the needy families of Aleppo continue to receive food and the other items.

Pray for Aleppo

Father, You own the cattle on a thousand hills. The earth and all who dwell here were created by Your hand. We pray for fellow Christians, indeed for all who live in the beleaguered city of Aleppo that You will gather them under Your wings of protection as a hen gathers her chicks. Your churches there, continue to provide food and shelter for those who suffer want. Protect the meager resources and multiply their effectiveness. We mourn for those who were lost, believers caught in the crossfire between government and rebel forces. They are in Your hands and we are thankful for that comfort. We also deeply mourn the death of those who did not know You, who are lost forever, who exist in eternal death. And so we pray for those who still walk the streets of Aleppo who are living in spiritual darkness that You might draw them by the gospel of Christ into a living hope. In the name of Jesus, our only true hope in life and death. Amen.
