Pray that God Will Open Eyes During Ramadan
The Muslims month of Ramadan has begun around the world, the 9th month of the Islamic calendar. This year, Ramadan falls between June 5 and July 5. These 30 days of fasting are a time in which Muslims attempt to please God through spiritual discipline, such as fasting, and good works. They believe that this is the month during which the Quran was given as a revelation, that evil spirits are bound, that the doors of hell are closed, and the doors of heaven are open. Thus, during this month of Ramadan, Muslims attempt to draw near to Allah. Nearly everyone, including nominal Muslims, become faithful in the Muslim daily prayers during their holy month. They fast from the first light of dawn until sunset, not eating or drinking anything all day. Historically, many Muslims have turned to Christ during the month of Ramadan. But it is also a time of fierce devotion to the Prophet Mohammed and often Christians around the world are in particular danger during this month. Even as the call to prayer fills the air in cities around the globe, let us hear and respond to the Holy Spirit’s call to prayer for Muslims. Download the Ramadan Prayer Calendar on the Open Doors’ website to help you as you petition the God of salvation on their behalf.
Father, in Matthew 4 of Your Holy Word, we read about Isaiah’s prophecy that “Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali, the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles—the people living in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.” Truly Christ is that light and was Your very presence among us as He walked this earth. We give You great praise with thanksgiving in our hearts that You have fixed that light of truth and faith on our own hearts that we might call You Father. We pray for the protection of believers during Ramadan and for their bold acts of compassion as they reach out to Muslim neighbors with the gospel of Christ through both words and deeds. And during this month of Ramadan we pray that You will shine the light of Christ on Muslims throughout the world as they prayerfully seek You. Draw them to Your Word, to Your very presence, in saving faith through dreams and visions and through the compassionate reaching out of believers. In the name of Jesus who is redeeming a people to be His own from all nations of the earth, Amen.
