Our field is sharing that Iranian Christians are asking prayer for an Iranian house church leader and a member of his church whose convictions were upheld. Iranian house church leader Saheb Fadaei (pictured left) and 37-year-old Fatimeh Bakhteri (right) just received news of their prison sentences for 18 months and 12 months, respectively. Saheb is additionally sentenced to two years in internal exile–a punishment often given to political prisoners in Iran.
The two were convicted of “spreading propaganda against the regime.”
Saheb and Fatimeh were arrested at a house church in Rasht on May 25, 2017. More than a year later in September 2018–following a court hearing earlier in the month–their lawyer told them they had each been found guilty. Reportedly, during the hearing a judge asked each one to renounce their Christian faith. They quickly refused.
An appeal hearing earlier this year in January upheld the conviction for the Iranian house church leader and church member; they just learned about their prison sentences on May 18.
Saheb is already serving another sentence in Tehran’s Evin Prison (known as Iran’s “torture factory), along with Pastors Yousef Nadarkhani, Mohammadreza Omidi and Yaser Mosibzadeh. Each Iranian house church leader is serving 10-year sentences for “propagating house churches and promoting Zionist Christianity” that began after a hearing on June 14, 2017. This new sentence is on top of the one he’s serving currently.
Praying With Iranian Christians
Iranian believers request prayer that:
- the Lord will encourage and strengthen Saheb and Fatimeh, despite the injustices they face.
- the Lord will also encourage and strengthen Saheb’s family and Fatimeh’s husband.
- the Lord will bless and use Saheb, Yousef, Mohammadreza and Yaser while they’re held in Evin Prison.
- the Iranian regime will stop targeting Christian converts and other minorities for their religious beliefs and related peaceful activities
