Suffering Christians Need Our Support
SANTA ANA, Calif. (Nov. 15, 2010) – Over two weeks ago, Christians in Baghdad experienced one of the worst massacres since 2003. At least 58 were killed in the Oct. 31 Sunday evening church hostage situation with many others injured.
One Christian shared that “a woman was hit by a bullet or something and bleeding. Her husband tried to contact her on the phone, but his wife told him ‘stop calling me because they kill everybody who uses his phone, I just want to say I love you, but stop calling me.’ That was the last words he heard from his wife. She bled to death.”
Despair is widespread among Christians in Iraq. Many are thinking of leaving the country. Because Christians are increasingly becoming targets of Muslim terrorists, Open Doors is reaching out to Christian churches in the Baghdad area through a web-based letter writing campaign.
The Open Doors letter writing campaign is designed to support Christians in Baghdad who are facing intense persecution. At a time when Christians in Iraq are overwhelmed and anxious, Open Doors is asking Christians to be a source of encouragement to them. The campaign will end on Nov. 24.
To participate in the campaign, go to http://www.opendoorsusa.org/get-involved/write/iraq or to the Open Doors website at www.OpenDoorsUSA.org. Participants can submit their letters online to ensure a rapid delivery. The process takes only a few minutes to complete. Please do not mention Open Doors in your e-mail, don’t use addresses or criticize other religions.
“This is an amazing opportunity to encourage persecuted Christians in their greatest time of need,” states Carl Moeller, President/CEO of Open Doors USA. “Since many of them are experiencing tremendous despair and hopelessness, we as the body of Christ can encourage them through letters and our prayers.”
For Christians in Iraq, God is their only hope. Many do not receive help from the government and often do not know how much of their misery is known to the rest of world. Please pray for:
God’s protection over our Christian brothers and sisters
That believers will be encouraged by this campaign
That Iraq would become a safer place for Christians
