Thousands Unite in Support of North Korean Christians

April 21, 2010 by Open Doors in

SANTA ANA, Calif. (April 21, 2010) – Thousands of people around the world have joined efforts with Open Doors USA this month to support embattled Christians in North Korea.

Through signing up to host prayer vigils, downloading a prayer guide and sending encouraging words of hope that will be broadcast over the radio to North Koreans, Christians in the West are supporting their brothers and sisters in Christ.

More than 34 individuals have already signed up to hold prayer vigils in their church, home or community centers, including Christians in Kenya, Romania, Argentina and Australia. Over 1,450 people have gone to the Open Doors website at www.OpenDoorsUSA.org and written messages which will be translated and then sent by radio into North Korea. Also, nearly 1,900 people have become members of the campaign on the Open Doors USA Facebook page.

“It is so encouraging to see believers in the United States and in other countries participating through all these different avenues,” says Open Doors USA President/CEO Carl Moeller. “If you have not already joined in to support North Koreans, please consider going to our website and making a difference in the lives of those suffering under the most brutal regime in the world.”

The annual North Korea Freedom Week (NKFW) will be held April 25-May 1. The event has a different look this year because the North Korea Freedom Coalition (NKFC), which sponsors the event and of which Open Doors is a member, is holding most of the activities with other groups in Seoul, South Korea, instead of Washington, D.C., as in the past. North Korea defector groups hosting the events in Seoul asked Open Doors USA to facilitate prayer activities during NKFW. They believe prayer is the most important way Christians can support freedom for North Koreans.
