The Struggle for Christians in Mauritania

December 6, 2015 by Janelle P in Africa

The Islamic Republic of Mauritania has a very small church. Not only do new believers have to cope with life in a harsh environment under even harsher poverty, they also have to discover their new faith with few local role models and examples of how to follow Christ in their context.

Christians from a Muslim background can experience a great deal of persecution from both family and members of their society if their faith is discovered.

With all of these challenges, it can be difficult for Christians to hold onto their faith. Please pray that their faith would remain strong in spite of all of these obstacles.

  1. 1. Praying for leader, Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, and his ruling party to put their people ahead of their own interests and lead Mauritania to an improved quality of life.
    2. Praying for provision for the people, as this is one of the poorest countries in the world.
    3. Praying for equality among people, as ethnicity leads to discrimination today.
    4. Praying for God’s family, as they are few in number and often feel isolated; they have few leaders and role models to equip the saints.

  2. Thank you for these prayers Kevin. We appreciate hearing from those who remain faithful in prayer with us. Blessings!

  3. Dear God please bless Your people in Mauritania. Send other saints to fellowship with me. Look upon their poverty and give relief. Please strengthen their faith, May it be unshakeable and lead their families and neighbors to You. In Jesus’s Name. Thank You God. Amen.
