Urgent Prayer Request from Pakistan

September 8, 2014 by Open Doors in Middle East

Open Doors recently received a message from believers in Pakistan telling us about the desperate situation that they are in and the need for our prayers.

“Thank you for praying for us. We continue to need your prayers. I am not sure how the international media is reporting this, but we are in critical times. The two political parties leading the protest against the present government are calling for a complete revolt; there have been bloody clashes as they try to take over the Prime Minister’s residence, the House of Parliament and even the national media house.

Both Imran Khan (former cricketer) and Tahir Ul Qadri (Maulana/Islamic Clergyman) are calling for this to become the new independence of Pakistan. The people we see on the streets in the midst of these clashes appear to be fundamentalist and extremist. It is hard to even articulate these updates with all the chaos that is around us. Please be praying for protection in these times.

Today, the media is finally speaking out and suggesting what Christians have been sensing for some time; that if Imran Khan becomes the head of state, we are looking at a North Korea type dictatorship with access to the nuclear capability of Pakistan. The media referred to the protesting duo (in alliance only for the season) as Imran Marx and Tahir ul Mao.

Pakistan needs your prayers at this critical time. Every day, I thank the Lord for all you who are praying for us. We are so blessed to have a praying family. Thank you.”

Father, we bring before You the nation of Pakistan, embroiled in conflict. We pray for those who are blinded to the truth, and following men of violence. We especially pray against Imran Khan coming into power. Grant wisdom and discernment to everyone in decision-making positions, especially Christians, and empower the police with the power to quell the protest and keep it from becoming all-out revolt. Protect journalists and media centers; that the world might remain informed about the situation there. In the midst of this unrest and chaos in Pakistan, we give thanks that Your Spirit is working in the hearts of men and women to turn to You through faith in Christ. We pray in confidence that Your will is being accomplished and Your church is being built. In the name of Jesus, the light of hope in this world of spiritual darkness, Amen.

Join others in praying.
